Product description

Oedo-Koh Water Drop by Nippon Kodo is a Japanese incense with a warm, perfumed and powdery fragrance inspired by the bathing culture of historic Edo. The 60 short incense sticks are made without a bamboo core and are presented with a small metal holder.

Inspired by the bathhouses of the Edo period

During the Edo period (1603–1868), many people did not have a private bath at home. Public bathhouses therefore became an integral part of everyday urban life. What began as steam baths gradually developed into bathhouses with large communal tubs, where people of different ages and social backgrounds gathered.

With Oedo-Koh Water Drop, Nippon Kodo draws on this distinctive aspect of life in Edo. Its historical inspiration includes a perfumed lotion said to have been popular among bathhouse visitors. It was made using distilled floral essences, obtained with a distillation apparatus known as a Ranbiki.

Warm, perfumed and powdery fragrance

Water Drop has a perfumed and powdery fragrance character with floral warmth. Nippon Kodo associates this fragrance with the moment after leaving a warm bath and the atmosphere of the bathhouses of the time.

The precise aromatic composition of the incense is not specified. The historical references to distilled floral essences describe the inspiration behind the series and should therefore not be understood as indicating actual ingredients in the incense sticks.

60 short Japanese incense sticks

The pack contains 60 incense sticks without a bamboo core and a small metal holder. Each stick burns for approximately 12 minutes. This compact format allows for a short incense-burning session during which the warm, floral and powdery character of Water Drop unfolds.
