Blue Sage with Lavender combines the herbaceous character of Blue Sage with aromatic lavender flowers in a smudge bundle approximately 10 cm long. The two plants complement each other both in fragrance and in the traditional meanings attributed to them in various incense practices.
The name “Blue Sage” is used commercially for various plants and does not refer to a single, botanically defined species. As the exact botanical identification of the Blue Sage contained in this bundle has not been established, no scientific name is given.
When burned as incense, Blue Sage releases a dry, herbaceous and slightly spicy plant fragrance. Lavender complements it with its characteristic aromatic and floral scent. This gives the composition a softer and more floral character than a smudge bundle made from Blue Sage alone, without overpowering its herbaceous base.
In contemporary incense traditions, Blue Sage is particularly associated with cleansing and protection. Depending on the tradition, it is also associated with luck, prosperity and success. Light one end of the smudge bundle and allow the plant material to burn briefly. Then carefully blow out the flame so that the bundle continues to smoulder slowly and release smoke. Hold it over a heat-resistant bowl while burning or place it inside the bowl.
The bundle can be used several times. Carefully extinguish the embers after the desired burning time and make sure they are completely out. Ensure adequate ventilation and never leave smouldering incense unattended.
